Today I begin a series of entries under the title "Former railway stations in Silesia." These are mainly for railway stations and bus stops have been eliminated after 1990 and thus transformation. The scale of the liquidation of the railway infrastructure is enormous. When I go once in a while I see a trail from one year to less sidings, coaches, general traffic on the railway. Since I'm a big geek and I turn, I look at it with regret. I know that the laws of economics are inexorable and if something is a loss to get rid of, but do you really These steps were the end of thought. Probably not, because I was in my area there has not seen a case of restoring passenger train service, which was suspended a few years earlier. It is a line of Bytom-Gliwice. Unfortunately, after Zabrze-North train station was just an empty space and the remains of the platforms. But that's not the route I want to write today. Let me start from the station Gliwice-Sośnica. It was located on the line from Gliwice and Katowice in Rybnik-Ligota. Traffic halted trains probably in 1998 or 1999. The last hanging still in the station schedule from 1998. It shows that the trains ran only to Rybnik Ligota been substituted for the bus. Station is located on an active line of goods on which there is high traffic. In less than an hour we saw for example:
EUO7-445 with the composition of grain wagons
ET41-047 loggers, charcoal or Makoszów Bielszowice
SM42-2053 in the colors of LOTOS maneuvering the trolley mounted
So the line is used and profitable. But unfortunately, passenger transport is probably history. On the line Ligota are a number of stations and stops as Makoszowy Zabrze, Ruda Wirek, Ruda Kochłowice. Some very well preserved, some completely devastated. I think about each of them one day. And now back to the station: it was not a big train ot two platforms and a building. Probably the major miners were travelers who commute to work in the coal mine Sośnica. However, it is remarkably well preserved. I think as far as possible, however, that someone oversees. And well - just as long as possible because maybe one fine day, a unit where it stops. This can is called. dreams cut head, but a few years ago it did not believe that I'll ever having to hear the station in Gliwice, "a passenger train in Bytom substituted ......", yet heard, and even drove with his son. Finally, a few photos surrounding the train timetables and, of course, which lasted already 12 years ...
And at the end of the curiosity surrounding the station. At the track leading to the mine Sośnica narrow gauge railway once passed. This is another issue worth developing in this blog. Here you can write that narrow-gauge railways in Silesia once ranged from the small towns of Silesia and Szopienice to the Racibórz. Today, thanks to a group of enthusiasts managed to preserve the remnants of the old network in Bytom and Rudy Raciborskie.
